This Art Deco rug was handwoven in Tientsin, China during the second quarter of the 20th century.
The composition is restrained and elegant, with a rich burgundy field animated by an asymmetric arrangement of branching stems, leaves, and blossoms rendered in soft, autumnal hues. The floating floral elements introduce movement without disrupting the rug’s overall calm. This asymmetry, a hallmark of Deco-era Chinese production, gives the piece a distinctly modern sensibility despite its age.
In very good condition, with little to no wear. The pile is medium height, soft and plush, with a dense, heavy handle.
