A handsome Ersari Turkmen carpet with a richly saturated madder-red field organized into rows of large octagonal guls, each quartered and filled with small floral devices. Between them, angular cruciform ornaments create a secondary lattice, giving the field an unusually energetic rhythm.
The broad border is particularly strong, built from successive bands of diamonds and small geometric motifs in deep indigo, turquoise-blue, salmon, green, and ivory. The carpet’s exceptionally soft, velvety wool enhances the richness of the palette, giving the colors a deep, almost glowing quality and adding considerable tactile appeal.
Subtle variations in drawing keep the disciplined repeat lively, while the generous use of blue creates tremendous depth against the warm red ground.
