This American Hooked rug was handhooked in New England during the first quarter of the 20th century (1900-1925).  It features a pictorial design of two confronting dogs against a backdrop of trees. This Agra rug was woven in Northern India during the late 19th century.  It features an elegant all-over herati design in crimson and icy blue on an oxidized brown ground. The crimson tone utilizes lac which is a dye derived from insects and characteristic of Northern India weaving from both Amritsar and Agra. The whole is framed by a reconciled palmette border. A portion of foundation is visible revealing that the underlying cotton has been dyed with indigo.
