This Pardeh was likely woven by the Kurds of Northwest Syria.
A pardeh is used for a variety of purposes including partitioning tents, covering textiles or for special ceremonies and rituals like weddings. They are warp facing and flatwoven in narrow panels which are later stitched together.
This piece features strips in wonderful tones of green, purple, indigo, orange and a white woven of cotton. Each strip has a field with an evil eye motif that is broken up by rows of talismanic knots that utilize different material including old clothing and even hair that likely belonged to family members or ancestors. Nicely finished with a multicolored fringe.
In good, well used condition with many of the talismans still intact. There is some staining to the white cotton section and purple sections. Felt circles can be seen where it would have been hung.
