The botehs are big and plump in contrasting tones of purples, blues and pinks including an early synthetic hot pink that isn't for Baluch purists but adds some visual interest for the rest of us!  Finished on both ends with original interlocking lightning bolt kilims.

This finely woven Soumak was woven in the Kuba region of the eastern Caucasus during the late 19th century. 

The field is composed of dynamic diagonal bands filled with stylized zoomorphic and geometric motifs that are often interpreted as abstract dragons and set against alternating red, ivory, and blue grounds. These bands are interspersed with charming and symbolic filler elements like tiny birds and floral motifs that animate the composition with delightful irregularity.

This Baluch rug was handwoven during the early 20th century in Afghanistan.

It features two octagonal Turkmen guls on a red ground and framed by a border of hourglass and cruciform shapes. Rich saturated tones and nice interplay between light and dark. It has original kilim ends on top and bottom that are each embellished with their own weft float pattern. This balisht has it's original kilim back still intact and which employs thick stripes of red, orange, brown and ivory.
