This Turkmen Chyrpy was embroidered by the Tekke people in Turkmenistan during the late 19th century.
A chyrpy is a long robe of embroidered silk that Tekke women wear over the head and shoulders with false, decorative sleeves. These are ceremonial garments to be worn on special occasions. Darker chyrpys are traditionally worn by younger women with lighter colors by older women. This chyrpy features abstracted floral forms stitched in yellow, ivory aubergine, and red silk on black ground. It is lined with cotton that is block printed with boteh and scrolling leaves.
In very good condition with minimal wear for its considerable age.
