This vintage batik textile is an example of batik tulis—the traditional, hand-drawn wax-resist dyeing technique of Java, Indonesia. Its intricate pattern is arranged in a classic diagonal grid (kawung) formation, filled with an elegant interplay of florals, paisleys, and cosmic starbursts in warm, earthy tones of indigo, caramel, and ivory.
