This finely woven Bakhtiari rug is distinguished by its elegant ivory medallion field framed by richly ornamented millefleurs corner spandrels. Graceful vinery and abundant gul farang (“foreign flower”) cabbage roses fill the composition, creating a refined balance between geometric structure and naturalistic floral ornament.
Woven in lustrous wool, the palette combines soft ivory with deep indigo, madder red, sky blue, and walnut brown. The intricate drawing, exceptional detail, and harmonious proportions reflect the artistry for which the finest Bakhtiari weavings are celebrated.
Blending the romantic floral aesthetic of the gul farang tradition with the exuberance of millefleurs corner panels, this is a sophisticated and highly decorative example of early twentieth-century Bakhtiari weaving.
