Framed by a main border of sharply petalled rosettes that is flanked by minor borders of interlocking 'z's. </span>Classic soumak patterning rendered in pile weave is very rare.

This Shirvan rug was handwoven during the 19th century in the Caucasus.

It features a classic soumak medallions in blue on a patinated brick field containing shape filled octagons, rosettes and various other protection symbols. Framed by a main border of sharply petalled rosettes that is flanked by minor borders of interlocking 'z's. Classic soumak patterning rendered in pile weave is very rare. This is the first antique piece in which we have encountered this phenomenon.

In good condition with areas of wear to the foundation, all 4 sides have been reinforced. Size has been reduced previously.
