This tunic was woven and block-printed In Mali or Burkina Faso during mid–20th century

A striking vintage West African tunic created from handwoven cotton strips and decorated with bold block-printed motifs. The central design features rows of stylized crocodiles, powerful symbols associated with water spirits, protection, and ancestral strength throughout the Sahel. Alternating with them are vertical millet stalk motifs, representing nourishment, fertility, and the continuity of community life.

These Brain Squares are made of 12” x 12” birch plywood and are part of an ongoing project that includes both pre-planned and improvised components. This series is also informed by music. The pre-planned aspect is that all include a brain image in which I use the same two stencils and enamel spray paint, though using different combinations of colors. The background in all these pieces, is the improvised part. For that, I use colored Sharpie markers and each one is different. While I a

From Mary Ann:

My fascination with grids goes back to art school. In my tapestries, they have been the basis of several compositions but I have also broken up the grid into splintered areas that take on a kind of cubist imagery. The work of the Cubist painters has had a great influence on me in both tapestry as well as in painting.
