This batik patchwork was crafted in Indonesia during the 20th century.

Batik is a wax-resist technique that creates a distinctive style. This textile features a variety of batik designs that have been patchworked together into four quadrants creating a dynamic design in purples and yellows.

Vintage Batik Patchwork - 3' x 5'9

Ende was an important trading post where many cloths were traded including Indian Patola. This cloth is highly influenced by Patola and was created using traditional ikat techniques. A tightly rendered repeat pattern is executed in cotton dyed with indigo and morinda with the cream tinged with morinda from the resist process. A semba is a traditional man's shawl of the indigenous Sikka people of Flores.

This vintage textile was crafted by the Loimi Akha Hill Tribe near the border of Myanmar and Thailand.

The Akha hill tribe people live in China, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. Loimi Akha Hill Tribe Belt - 3'5 x 80"

This coverlet was crafted during the 20th century in Rajasthan, India.

It features hand cut mirrors that have been hand-stitched with silk thread into grid and diamond patterns on cotton cloth dyed with a dusty lilac. The mirrors really sparkle in the right light.

19th century Phulkari is a tradition of folk embroidery from the Punjab region that encompasses both India and Pakistan. This Phulkari was crafted in four strips and composed of ivory and gold silken thread atop terracotta dyed cotton.

rajasthan It features various naturalistic floral motifs and squares that are made with hand drawn mordant and resist dyed cotton. In various reds and purples with sage, dutch orange and most notably a neon pink. These pieces are referred to as Jajam and often made as part of a dowry. They are used for honored guests or communally as a seat for village council members when making social and judicial decisions.

Afghan Lakai recycle reuseIt features a variety of fabric squares patchworked in to the shape of a traditional Uzbek door hanging. Some squares are plain fabric and others are recycled ikat and even appliquéd felt. The backing is old Russian rollerprint. A nice example of recycling and reuse.

Afghan Lakai recycle reuse It features a patchwork of red squares embroidered with lively abstracted floral forms in ivory, yellow orange and light and in vibrant tones of yellow, orange, light and dark purple. The whole is framed by remnants of colorful cross stitch bands. A nice piece that showcases the practice of recycling and reuse. The bands as well as the red squares have been reconfigured from either a larger piece or potentially even multiple pieces.

A chyrpy is a long robe of embroidered silk that Tekke women wear over the head and shoulders with false, decorative sleeves. These are ceremonial garments to be worn on special occasions. This chyrpy features abstracted floral forms stitched in yellow, ivory aubergine and red silk on black ground. It is lined with cotton that is blockprinted with boteh and scrolling leaves.

needlepoint rug handcrafted in Europe. Features a nighttime scene of foliage, moths and stars that wrap both above and behind a blue rectilinear form. It is simple and straightforward yet still striking in its warmth and beauty. The forms are impeccably executed and stand out against the backdrop that shifts from olive green to indigo and back to olive green. Look closely to see the renderign of shadows behind the leaves stars. Wonderful use of shading and dimensionality.
